Adult Leader Training

Cub Scout Leader Training and Youth Protection Training are going to be offered throughout the fall! True youth protection can be achieved only through the focused commitment of everyone in Scouting. It is the mission of Youth Protection volunteers and professionals to work within the Boy Scouts of America to maintain a culture of Youth Protection awareness and safety at the national, regional, area, council, district, and unit levels. There are several leaders who are Trained to lead sessions in your units to ensure that everyone is trained in Youth Protection.

Training sessions are as follows for both Youth Protection and Cub Scout Leader Sessions:

Wednesday, October 24, 2018, 6:30 pm, Augustana Lutheran Church, Fergus Falls, MN

There will be Cub Scout Leader Training and Youth Protection Training at this session, which will be offered at the same time. Please make sure that if you need both, you plan on attending two different sessions.

Unit Charter Renewal and Youth Protection Training

Charter Renewal Packets will be handed out during November Roundtable on November 1st, 2018
The online Charter renewal system will be opening for Oxcart Trails on Saturday, December 1st, 2018. If you have never gone through the Charter process before, the district will be offering a help session during the December Roundtable on December 6th, 2018 at 7 pm. Here are a few key pointers for charter renewal to help this year go smooth for everyone:

  • The new Youth Protection Training (completed after March 1, 2018) is required for each registered leader - the online system will not allow submittal until all leaders are certified in Youth Protection Training (YPT). We are still offering YPT for those who might want to do the in person training instead of the online training. Please get in contact with your Unit leader or Unit Commissioner for a list of those who are able to teach the in person YPT.
  • Select an adult leader from the unit to be the Charter Renewal Processor for the unit. This could be the Committee Chair, or another adult who is willing to help out!
  • Get complete, new applications, including all required parts and signatures, for any new youth or adult members.   All adult applications must include the signed Disclosure/Authorization form and must also include proof of completed Youth Protection Training.
  • All charters must be turned in by January 23rd, 2019 at the District Charter Turn in Party.

Youth Protection Training

Youth Protection Training (YPT) is required for all adult leaders at the time of registration. Paper applications from new leaders must be accompanied by a Youth Protection Training completion certificate, which must be filed with the application.  Go to my.scouting.org  to take the training, or contact one of our many in District Youth Protection Champions to train your Unit today!
