Northern Lights Council
Welcome to the Northern Lights Council, Boy Scouts of America. Since 1910, the Boy Scouts of America has provided a comprehensive youth development program for communities across America.
The Northern Lights Council was incorporated in 1974 after a merger of four Boy Scout Councils in North Dakota and northwestern Minnesota. The council is chartered by the National Council, Boy Scouts of America to administer BSA programs within our assigned territory.
The purpose of the Northern Lights Council is to help shape and mold the development of our community’s youth. Our goal is to promote and administer Scouting to all young men and women throughout the council and to develop these young people through programs which stress citizenship training, character development, and physical and mental fitness.
The Northern Lights Council is a United Way agency and serves more than 10,000 youth across the State of North Dakota, 18 counties in northwestern Minnesota and 2 counties each in South Dakota and Montana.
It is the mission of the Northern Lights Council, Boy Scouts of America, to prepare young people to make ethical choices over their lifetime by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law.
The Scout Oath
