Silver Beaver Award

The Silver Beaver Award is the highest award the Council can bestow upon a registered volunteer Scouter in recognition of distinguished service to the Council and its youth. Nominations will not only be judged on their outstanding volunteer service at the Council level, but their overall service to youth.

 

The Silver Beaver Awards are presented during the Council Annual Recognition Banquet. The 2024 Banquet will be held on Saturday, May 4 at the Jon Wanzek Center for Scouting in Fargo, ND.

 

Nominations for the 2024 Silver Beaver Awards are due no later than March 1, 2024. Deadline past – please consider nominations for 2025.

District Award of Merit

The District Award of Merit is a council award presented by districts in the same manner that the Silver Beaver is a national award presented by councils. The award is available to Scouters who render service of an outstanding nature at the district level. The award is made available annually on the basis of 1 for each 25 traditional units or fraction thereof.

 

The District Awards of Merit are presented during the Council Annual Recognition Banquet. The 2024 Banquet will be held on Saturday, May 4 at the Jon Wanzek Center for Scouting in Fargo, ND.

 

Nominations for the 2024 District Awards of Merit are due no later than March 1, 2024. Deadline past – please consider nominations for 2025.

James A. Jorgenson Volunteer Recognition Award

The James A. Jorgenson Volunteer Recognition Award was established to honor and recognize exceptional adult volunteer leaders:

 

(1) who demonstrate a commitment to volunteering and have made significant contributions to youth through Scouting,

(2) have shown outstanding dedication and inspirational leadership,

(3) who have made extraordinary contributions to Scouting, and

(4) who may not be recognized at other levels for their contributions.

 

The James A. Jorgenson Volunteer Recognition Award is presented annually at the Council Annual Banquet in May. Recipients will receive a framed certificate recognizing and honoring their outstanding leadership and volunteer achievements plus a grant award.

 

Eligibility:

Nominations will not be considered for professional Scouters or Council Employees.  Nominations cannot be made for posthumous awards.

The candidate must:

 

  • Be a registered adult volunteer in good standing, who lives within the boundaries of the Northern Lights Council and is at least 21 years of age at the time of the nomination.
  • Have made significant and outstanding contributions to the Scouting movement.
  • Have proven leadership in their Scouting role.
  • Exemplify the ideals of the Scout Oath and Law.
  • Have proven exemplary volunteer service to Scouting.

 

Nomination Procedure:  

Scouting members, volunteers, and Scouting parents or any individuals may nominate a candidate by submitting the following:

 

  • Official nomination form.
  • Narrative of no more than two pages of demonstrated exemplary service to Scouting and demonstrated leadership in their Scouting role.
  • At least one letter of recommendation (no more than three).
