Youth protection begins with YOU!

The Northern Lights Council, BSA is conducting in-person Youth Protection Training sessions open to the public. Any adult that works with youth may attend free of charge including, Scout leaders, church youth group leaders, service club members, etc.

How to complete Youth Protection Training online

To complete the training online, you will need to have an account or set up an account at

When you set up your my.scouting account, you should enter your BSA membership ID so your account is linked to your official BSA records. Without entering a BSA membership ID, the completion of the training will not be recorded in your training records.

BSA Youth Protection Mission Statement

True youth protection can be achieved only through the focused commitment of everyone in Scouting. It is the mission of Youth Protection volunteers and professionals to work within the Boy Scouts of America to maintain a culture of Youth Protection awareness and safety at the national, regional, area, council, district, and unit levels.

Bullying Awareness


Become a Youth Protection Training Champion

Registered Scout leaders that have an unexpired YPT certificate can become a certified YPT Champion by completing an additonal training course conducted by our Council YPT Champion, John Bisbee.

The course is conducted online using a video conferencing platform.

By completing this additional course, YPT Champions may then conduct in-person training sessions for other leaders. After completion of the training, participants will receive:

  • A Certified YPT Champion certificate
  • A special yellow square knot loop to wear on your uniform (signifying that you are a YPT Champion)
  • A flash drive containing the materials and videos needed to conduct the in-person training

Two training sessions have been conducted in 2020 and additional sessions will be posted here as they are scheduled.
